The Demonic Influence on Women Today
In the late ’60s, a small group of elite American women convinced an overwhelming majority of the country that destroying the most fundamental of relationships—that of mother and child—was necessary for women to have productive and happy lives.

From the spoiling of this relationship followed the decay of the entire family, and almost overnight, our once pro-life culture became pro-lifestyle, embracing everything that felt good. Sixty million abortions later, women aren’t showing signs of health, happiness, and fulfillment. Increased numbers of divorce, depression, anxiety, sexually transmitted disease, and drug abuse all point to the reality that women aren’t happier, just more medicated.

Huge cultural shifts led to a rethinking of womanhood, but could there be more behind it than just culture, politics, and rhetoric?

Building off the scriptural foundations of the anti-Christ, Carrie Gress makes an in-depth investigation into the idea of an anti-Mary—as a spirit, not an individual—that has plagued the West since the ’60s. Misleading generations of women, this anti-Marian spirit has led to the toxic femininity that has destroyed the lives of countless men, women, and children.

Also in The Anti-Mary Exposed
  •  How radical feminism is connected to the errors of Russia, spoken of by Our Lady of Fatima. The involvement and influence of the goddess movement and the occult.
  • The influence of “female” demons, such as Lilith and Jezebel.
  • The repulsive underbelly of radical feminism’s chief architects.
  • A look at the matriarchy, a cabal of elite women committed to abortion, who control the thinking of most women through media, politics, Hollywood, fashion, and universities.

The antidote to the anti-Mary is, of course, Mary, the Mother of God, known widely as the most powerful woman in the world and the source of the belief that women ought to be treated with dignity. She is a beacon of all the virtues and qualities—purity, humility, kindness, beauty—that oppose this sinister force that has cast its spell upon so many women. Mary’s influence is unparalleled by any woman in history. She is the perfect model of Christian femininity, who desires to be a spiritual mother to us all, leading us to her Son, and to the fulfillment of our heart’s deepest desires.

The AntiMary Exposed Rescuing the Culture from Toxic Femininity Carrie Gress PhD 9781505110265 Books Reviews

  • This book is a good read for those of us who have an uneasy feeling that the world and particularly American society is spinning out of control. Each day we are faced with yet another example of evil in the world and the continuation of the slaughter of the innocents in the name of the pursuit of personal happiness with a complete divestiture of responsibility for personal decisions and actions. In addition there is now a complete abhorrence for motherhood, marriage, and families. The author provides a very simple and executable alternative for surviving the daily expansion of evil in the United States.
  • I received this book as a gift and was powerfully pulled into its important and enlightening message. The cover alone says so much. At first, I thought the little pink spots at the bottom were roses. No, they are pink "cat" hats worn by Women's March participants. And this is where we begin with unraveling the Feminist Movement and its tragic consequences. Sadly, many are unaware. As a mother of daughters currently deciding their futures, I find this book a critical read for women of their generation. The author helps us wade through the mantras of feminism vs. the living reality. We have sold our souls for a lie that is not achievable, nor our heart's true desire. Gress does an incredible job of weaving together the strands, many of which we've known exist, but hadn't yet, until now, seen assimilated in such an honest way. This work isn't just exposing the wound; it also reveals the beautiful antidote. It would be hard, after reading this book, not to see the gift we've been given in Mary, if we only allow her in. Since reading "The Anti-Mary Exposed," I've bought three additional copies for dear ones I know will benefit from it, and I'm telling anyone I know who might appreciate it to do the same. This is potentially a life-changing, soul-saving work.
  • This was a very informative expose about the movement which came to a head when I was in college and early in my marriage. I let The Feminist Movement drift over my head because I was busy having babies and loving being a stay-at-home mom, so I didn't realize how toxic the ideas were. The ugly consequences are all to obvious today.
  • Next to my armchair is a stack of books waiting to be read, some started and then put aside. This book is not one of them. I LOVE this book. I finished it tonight, a perfect book for International Women’s Day, because Mary is THE perfect woman, whom we should strive to be close to and whom both women and men should aspire to be like. Our parish is working on a 33 day consecration to Jesus through Mary, so this book is timely, as it is for Lent, too. Almost 25 years ago, Mary began drawing me toward her Son, and into the Catholic Church, though so subtly, as is her way, that I did not see it at the time. But, this book has moved me closer to her than I have ever been, especially in one part after which I had to stop reading because it brought me to tears when I recognized the depth of her love for us, her children. It came from a very unexpected quoted source, a most unlikely one, a being of the Spirit world, an “eye witness” at the crucifixion to the depth of love and suffering that Mary, Mother of God, experienced at the foot of the cross. I truly believe that the only way out of our present darkness, and the salvation of the world, is to Jesus through His Blessed Mother, Mary. Read this. You will be glad you did.
  • The best review I have read came from Mallory Millett, Writer, Speaker, Director David Horowitz Freedom Center, Sister of feminist-icon Kate Millett

"I am bowled over by Carrie Gress’ latest book. For me, it’s among the most important works published by a modern Catholic…. Her discovery and definition of the Anti-Mary is an answer to the current world-wide dismay over “what on earth has happened to women?”"

I am a 55 year old man, born the year The Feminine Mystic was written, a month after JKF was assassinated. The year I graduate high school was when abortion was at it's peak. My mother was a holy and devout Catholic mother of four children. We grew up in the church and out of nowhere our family was caught up in the frenzy caused by the turbulent 1960's and 1970's. No fault divorce devastated our family. A perfectly happy and content family exploded after my parents divorce. We stopped going to church and I did not pick up my faith again util 30 years later. These things didn't just happen but were the results of a demonic possession our society had never experienced. Carrie briefly explains the downfall of our country from the time WWI broke out to WWII and the subversive roll Marxism had and influenced the toxic feminine movement. (I hope she might wright a more in-depth book on this subject next).

Please read her previous book The Marian Option God's Solution to a Civilization in Crisis. And follow up with a fabulous book written by Jennifer Robak Morse PhD The Sexual State How Elite Ideologies Are Destroying Lives and Why the Church Was Right All Along.

These are not "Catholic books", they are books about the spiritual battle that has enveloped the earth. Put on your battle gear and fight, fight, fight.
  • Great book and much needed in these times. I would definitely recommend it to young women as so many seemed confused and do not agree with the radical feminists of today. The author has addressed so many issues straight on and does not sugar coat what is currently going on in our society. I’ve giFted 3 of these books as think it provides a great compass to the young readers of today.
  • Dr. Gress wonderfully analyzes the problems with feminism and exposes its rotting underbelly. I recommend this book for both men and women. We are both made in the image and likeness of God. This book helps us how to see this as well as how to carry out acting in His image. Great job!
  • This work is so important and is compelling reading for the times we live in! Could not put it down! It gives answers to how we got in this mess! The research is impeccable! This is a major contribution so desperately needed today! Great Job!

This is New York Times bestselling author and Emmy-nominated broadcaster Ron Darling's 108 baseball anecdotes that connect America’s game to the men who played it.

In 108 Stitches, New York Times bestselling author and Emmy Award-winning broadcaster Ron Darling offers his own take on the "six degrees of separation" game and knits together wild, wise, and wistful stories reflecting the full arc of a life in and around our national pastime.

Darling has played with or reported on just about everybody who has put on a uniform since 1983, and they in turn have played with or reported on just about everybody who put on a uniform in a previous generation. Through relationships with baseball legends on and off the field, like Yale coach Smoky Joe Wood, Willie Mays, Bart Giamatti, Tom Seaver and Mickey Mantle, Darling's reminiscences reach all the way back to Babe Ruth and other early twentieth-century greats.

Like the 108 stitches on a baseball, Darling's experiences are interwoven with every athlete who has ever played, every coach or manager who ever sat in a dugout, and every fan who ever played hooky from work or school to sit in the bleachers for a day game.

Darling's anecdotes come together to tell the story of his time in the game, and the story of the game itself.

"Are the stories great? Yes. Is he a talented writer? Very much so. But while entertaining, this book just went places that are unnecessary, especially if your name is Frank Howard, Bob Murphy or Mackey Sasser. I've enjoyed listening to him for 14 years on Mets games, but sorry Ron, to quote your Mookie Wilson story, "you're better than that". And FYI, it was Bob Stanley who threw the last pitches of Game 6, not Calvin Schiraldi ... thought you would have known that."

  • As I traveled back in time with Ron Darling, and focused on his candid revelations, I found myself surprisingly perplexed. The ballplayer I’d come to respect was tarnishing his profile in my eyes. I observed more than one insensitive recollection that radically changed my feelings about Ron. Many of his anecdotes seemed to distance him from many in his sports circle. Not having the patience or desire to communicate with one who stutters was the straw that broke this camel’s back. Moving forward, I will cautiously evaluate Ron Darling’s recollections, especially as an outgrowth of having been disappointed by this book.
  • Are the stories great? And FYI, it was Bob Stanley who threw the last pitches of Game 6, not Calvin Schiraldi ... thought you would have known that.
  • A refreshing look behind the modern game. Not too dissimilar to Ball four. Gives us a peek into what goes on in the clubhouse and off duty. Darling doesn't spare himself either...he points out his own bad behavior as he goes on. Very enjoyable read. Wish there were more sports books like this one.
  • For a baseball fan its always fun to get "dish" on players, managers, nuances of the game. This book does that "in spades" which makes for a good read!
  • This book is Ron Darling’s recollection about his life in professional baseball and in the broadcast booth. The book starts out with Ron’s relationships with other players that he met in his career. He explains his baseball life from his rookie year to the end when he was no longer able to pitch effectively. He explains how he makes the transition to the broadcast booth. He also tells about his life in New York City off of the field. The book ends with his relationships with other broadcasters and how he became one of the best announcers that the Mets have had. If you like baseball I think you will like this book. It is a must read for Met fans.
  • Very disappointing book by Ron Darling. Not worth the money!
  • Granted, it helps if you're somewhat of a baseball nerd to enjoy this book to its fullest, but if you have even a normal fan's knowledge of the game, you'll get something out of it. Darling dishes on some of his erstwhile teammates, opening up the dugout for those of us who sit behind that enclosure. His insight focuses mainly on fellow pitchers and broadcasters, but there was one chapter that displayed his and other players' humanity -- Some Crying in Baseball, wherein the examples are extraordinarily poignant. Baseball like any sport is made of up characters and individuals who can't help but take personally an unexpected trade or lineup change, forcing them to realize that management regards them not as human beings, but as bargaining chips. (I distinctly remember the Wilmer Flores episode he cites.) 108 Stitches hold together the ball, and since each ball is hand sewn, there are bound to be irregularities that give it ability to be thrown in different ways, and also dictate the unpredictability of its arc leaving the bat. So Darling gives 108 short stitches of his own, giving insights as well as whetting this reader's appetite for Opening Day.
  • As many of you know, there are 108 stitches in a baseball. It’s these slight “irregularities” that allow a pitcher to make a ball “move”. Otherwise, batters would be teeing off on a straight pitch. Those of you who can make a whiffle-ball dance, know what I mean.

In this book, by former big-league pitcher and current New York Met’s broadcaster Ron Darling, Darling practices a form of “six degree of separation” with his stories, where one thing often leads to another to another. Oftentimes, one story leads directly into another, while other times, Darling uses some other way of starting a story, such as an alphabeticalized listing of former teammates.

As this is his third book, it’s almost surprising that he still has a lot to say. Most of the book is light-hearted and funny, only occasionally drifting into more somber stories. It’s a very good read, five stars.

As the 50th anniversary of the first lunar landing approaches, the award-winning historian and perennial New York Times best-selling author takes a fresh look at the space program, President John F. Kennedy's inspiring challenge, and America's race to the moon.

"We choose to go to the Moon in this decade and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard; because that goal will serve to organize and measure the best of our energies and skills, because that challenge is one that we are willing to accept, one we are unwilling to postpone, and one we intend to win." (President John F. Kennedy)

On May 25, 1961, JFK made an astonishing announcement his goal of putting a man on the moon by the end of the decade. In this engrossing, fast-paced epic, Douglas Brinkley returns to the 1960s to recreate one of the most exciting and ambitious achievements in the history of humankind. American Moonshot brings together the extraordinary political, cultural, and scientific factors that fueled the birth and development of NASA and the Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo projects, which shot the US to victory in the space race against the Soviet Union at the height of the Cold War.

Drawing on new primary source material and major interviews with many of the surviving figures who were key to America's success, Brinkley brings this fascinating history to life as never before. American Moonshot is a portrait of the brilliant men and women who made this giant leap possible, the technology that enabled us to propel men beyond earth's orbit to the moon and return them safely, and the geopolitical tensions that spurred Kennedy to commit himself fully to this audacious dream. Brinkley's ensemble cast of New Frontier characters include rocketeer Wernher von Braun, astronaut John Glenn, and space booster Lyndon Johnson.

A vivid and enthralling chronicle of one of the most thrilling, hopeful, and turbulent eras in the nation's history, American Moonshot is an homage to scientific ingenuity, human curiosity, and the boundless American spirit.

  • This book has the following fact errors, among many others

Page 147 “Television cameras carried images [of the Vanguard TV-3 launch] nationwide on CBS and NBC, beginning a tradition of live coverage for rocket launches that would last into the 1970s…” and “…with millions watching as the Vanguard TV-3 took off…” There was no TV coverage of this launch; the first live TV coverage of a launch was October 11, 1958.

Page 157 “Measuring just 6.4 inches in diameter, Explorer wasn’t very sophisticated or large—Nikita Khrushchev famously derided it as the ‘grapefruit satellite’...” Khrushchev, however, was referring to Vanguard 1, launched March 17, 1958. Explorer was 6.4 inches in diameter, but also more than six feet long.

Page 182 “…as Administrator Keith Glennan addressed a packed press briefing, a curtain was pulled open, revealing the seven astronauts…” There was no curtain.

Page 202 “…Echo 1 functioned as a kind of orbital mirror, bouncing radio-television beams off the Earth’s surface…” First, radio waves were bounced off of Echo, not the Earth’s surface. Second, it only was tested using radio signals and voice, but no television or video.

Page 204 Caption First, this photo is not from the October 21st Kennedy-Nixon debate, but rather from the September 25th debate; second, three of the four debates were in October, not all four as the caption states.

Page 211 “Five generations of rockets—starting with the early Vanguard, and then onward with ICBMs like Atlas, were born in the Eisenhower years...” Redstone (1950), Atlas (1953), Jupiter (1954) and Thor (Jan. 1957) all preceded Vanguard (Oct. 1957).

Page 211 “There were all sorts of weather satellites...” The only type of weather satellite at the time was the TIROS series; three (which only had different cameras) had been launched.

Page 240 “Seeing that capsule [Freedom 7] land in the Atlantic was one of the greatest thrills of Kennedy’s life.” This would not have been possible, as there was no live TV coverage of Shepard's recovery.

Page 241 “Kennedy played host to Shepard for the rest of that day…” They were only together until 11 am.

Page 242 A Shepard quote about Kennedy is said to refer their conversation at the White House, but actually refers to his post-flight phone call from the president.

Page 246 A photo from Kennedy’s first State of the Union speech in January is wrongly identified as from his May 25 speech to Congress.

Page 264 A photo from Kennedy’s October 1962 visit to Cape Canaveral is wrongly identified as being in Huntsville.

Photo page 11 Full-page color photo identified as Gordon Cooper aboard Faith 7. The photo is actually of a mannequin in a Gemini spacecraft.

Page 283 “Back in 1957, when JFK was deriding failed Vanguard launches…” On page 145, however, it states that “Kennedy didn’t comment on” the only Vanguard launch attempt that year (December).

Page 285 “[FDR’s fireside chats] between 1933 and 1945…” They ended in June 1944.

Page 296 “...a specially enlarged airplane, known as the ‘Super Guppy,’ to carry the third stage...”. This first aircraft was the Pregnant Guppy; the Super Guppy did not enter service until 1965.

Page 300 “Other scientific evidence collected by NASA during the Kennedy years proved that Mars [was a dead planet].” The first US Mars probe was launched in 1964 and returned data in 1965.

Page 326 “Later that day, at a White House Rose Garden ceremony...” (followed by a Kennedy quote) and “the president said with Glenn by his side.” First, there was no Rose Garden ceremony that day (it was rainy); and second, the quote is from Kennedy’s comments to the media on February 20th.

Page 336 “…the three-stage Saturn V rocket would stand 363 feet taller than the Statue of Liberty.” It was 58 feet taller; the Saturn itself was 363 feet tall.

Page 380 “Schirra reported back to Mercury Control everything he did or encountered, his voice relayed via the Telstar satellite to TV and radio audiences around the world.” Telstar only relayed a videotape playback of the launch to Britain and France, not coverage of the mission; nor around the world.

Page 402 “In early May, the president made a return visit to Huntsville for an earthshaking static firing of a Saturn booster stage.” The firing took place during his September 11, 1962 visit.

Page 405 “Pointing to his Oval Office rocking chair...” and “…their informal Oval Office chat...” This meeting was in the Yellow Oval Room on the second floor of the White House.

Page 412 Caption states November 18; this is actually November 16. Caption also refers to "USS Observational Island"; correct name is Observation Island.

Page 437 “As for the law firm orchestrating the construction of the Manned Spacecraft Center, it was, no surprise —Brown and Root...” Brown and Root was an industrial services contractor, not a law firm.

Page 441 “While Glenn lost in 1964, he eventually ended up serving in the Senate...” Glenn withdrew from his Senate race in 1964; he lost his primary in 1970.

Page 443 “...Gemini VIII in 1965...” Gemini VIII was in 1966.

Page 447 Caption refers to Apollo 11’s “mobile launch platform” instead of correct name, “mobile launcher.” The date (“May 17”) is incorrect; rollout was May 20.

Page 452 “Grissom was buried…not far from [Kennedy’s] eternal flame…” Grissom’s gravesite is more than half-a-mile to the south.

Page 452 “Only in late 1967, when the Soviets’ N1 rocket blew up on the pad, killing Russian engineers and designers, did the Kremlin stop competing.” First, the N1 pad explosion was in 1969; second, no fatalities were reported; and third, the N1 program continued into early 1974.

Page 458 References LM’s “descent engines” (plural). The LM had a single descent engine.
  • Fun to read history of my time as I grew to adulthood. It was a family adventure. BTW...Leroy Gordon Cooper was born and raised in a Shawnee Oklahoma. Not California as indicated on pg 403.
  • Though the release of this book is timed to coincide with the forthcoming 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing, it is in reality a Presidential biography of John F. Kennedy through the lens of the space race of the 1950s and 60s. It brilliantly places JFK in the time, place and context of an era where American achievement and prestige on the world stage is in question following early Soviet technological triumphs.

This book pulls back the curtain using archival sources - including JFK's hidden tape recording system installed in the White House - to reveal his deliberative processes that ultimately led him to make his bold declaration in 1961 of landing a man on the moon and returning him safely to the Earth. In this day and age, when elected officials make grandiose promises which remain unfulfilled and thus ultimately ring hollow in our ears virtually before the politician is finished speaking, it is startling to read how JFK's summons to the moon galvanized America's citizens, its government leaders, and, most importantly, its budget appropriators into sustained action in single-minded pursuit of that goal.

Characters of the era vividly come to life as flesh-and-blood humans, including the Mercury 7 astronauts, the early, fabled leaders of NASA, Lyndon Johnson and others. But brought most vividly to life were JFK and Wernher von Braun, probably the two most central figures in the audacious goal of a lunar landing before the end of the 1960s. Fortunately, Mr. Brinkley, though clearly editorializing, does not flinch from properly characterizing von Braun's contribution to manned spaceflight in the larger context of his Nazi past and complicity in war crimes, reminding us that the man was no hero. Kennedy, on the other hand, is revealed as the thoughtful, deliberate, highly intelligent, galvanizing leader he was. Even though we all know how JFK's story ended, when we are met with his sudden and violent death on a Dallas street, you feel a personal sense of loss that a great mind and inspiring leader was removed from the scene in such a ignominious manner; this book makes you yearn for what else might have come from this brilliant man who was taken from us at only 46.

The Apollo program and the 1969 moon landing are rather quickly wrapped up in an epilogue after JFK's death, so if you are looking for a history of the Apollo program, this isn't it, but nor was it meant to be. This book brilliantly reminds us of JFK's rightful place in space history as the driving force and inspiration for one of mankind's greatest adventures, and makes it clear that if anyone other than Kennedy had been president in the first years of the 1960s, our history would have turned out very differently, proving that the character and wisdom of the person in the Oval Office truly matters.

I highly recommend this book and enjoyed it thoroughly.
  • This was a good review of Kennedy's involvement in the space race. Only covers the Kennedy years but a lot of background information I was previously unaware of. Recommended.
  • Dr. Brinkley puts a well thought out and captivating story about an era that ends in triumph and not tragedy like most events in history. It was fascinating to read about how women were also physically and mentally tested to become astronauts and compared to their male counterparts. These women, who were called the Mercury 13, were part of the many unsung heroes in our race to the moon. The book also challenges the reader and society to wonder What will be the next moonshot?....What leader or event will unite societies to bring about a triumph in today’s age?”
  • According to , American Moonshot John F. Kennedy and the Great Space is WhisperSync capable. I purchased the audible version with it, only to find its not whispersync’d.
  • This is a fantastic read. The idea of a “moonshot” project - a bipartisan push for a shared and worthy goal - is a vivid reminder of what a united America can accomplish as a nation in such a circumstance. Brinkley’s book begs the question of whether we will be able to do it again, and to what end. Looking at the obstacles that had to be overcome some 50 years ago - detailed superbly in the book - against the backdrop of current events, one has to wonder. But the book reveals enough of a blueprint and showcases the type of human optimism that certainly still exists to let the reader contemplate the next great moonshot.

Professor Peyton Wilde has an enviable life teaching sociology at an idyllic liberal arts college--yet she is troubled by a sense of fading inspiration. One day an invitation arrives. Peyton has been selected to attend a luxurious all-expense-paid seminar in Iceland, where participants, billed as some of the greatest thinkers in the world, will be charged with answering one perplexing question. Meeting her diverse teammates--two neuroscientists, a philosopher, a dance teacher, a collage artist, and a farmer--Peyton wonders what she could ever have to contribute. The ensuing journey of discovery will transform the characters' work, their biases, and themselves. This suspenseful novel shows that the answers you seek can be found in the most unlikely places. It can be read for pleasure, is a great choice for book clubs, and can be used as unique and inspiring reading in qualitative research and other courses in education, sociology, social work, psychology, and communication.

"An interesting read, not sure what I was expecting, but not disappointed either. It’s hard not to pause and have a think on a key phrase, or comment from the story. But that is the idea isn’t it? I so wanted the answer to the question... silently forbidding myself to skip to the end... but it was ultimately all those key thoughts (I actually highlighted them along the way) that made me think that provided the answer."

Spark 9781462538157 Medicine Health Science Books Reviews

  • Spark is a breath of fresh air. This is an uplifting, original, well-written novel. I was thoroughly engaged following the cast of characters as they tried to unravel the meaning of a dumbfounding question and discovered things about themselves and others along the way. There were great life reminders about the importance of the process over the outcome and challenging oneself to push past comfort zones. We all need those reminders from time to time. As a former teacher, one of the most gratifying parts was after finishing the “tour de force” one is given “points to ponder” and questions to consider. Thanks, I needed that!
  • This book is that rarest of works, a great story and a great, deep message. The cast of characters are all interesting and important to the story. Nothing is wasted in this book, every phrase, every nuance is a vital building block in constructing the plot and the great conclusion. An important read, one that will 'spark' so many different emotions, and will definitely carry you to the top of the mountain, and out of your comfort zone.
  • If you’re looking for a new favorite book, Patricia Leavy’s Spark is it.

Having loved Ms. Leavy’s previous works, most notably her novel, Blue, I eagerly awaited her follow up. Spark not only delivers but holds true to the charge its title promises. What I found most captivating about the new book is that while Blue dealt with the journey we take to find ourselves, Spark is not only about a physical journey (all the way to Iceland) but also an inner one that focuses on the power of believing in ourselves.

From the first chapter, Ms. Leavy draws you into Peyton’s world by vividly painting even the simplest of details in a way that keeps the reader intrigued. Throughout the novel, Spark teaches us to look at ourselves, embrace our own insecurities and fears, and to discover the strength that lies in working with those that are different than us. Most importantly, it’s a lesson in learning our self-worth and the endless possibilities presented to us when we focus on all the ways we all fit into the puzzle rather than the reasons we don’t.

In one of my favorite sections of the book, one of the characters asks Peyton to head up to the roof with him to see the view. She confides in him that she’s always been afraid of heights. His insightful reply captures the spirit of this book, “That is because you look down. We will look up.”

Spark is an engaging and captivating work that shows us how the power of belief and self-acceptance can transform not only ourselves but those around us. In sharing Spark with us, Ms. Leavy has done just that, transformed her readers.

I look forward to Ms. Leavy’s next book, but until that time wholeheartedly recommend Spark to others. Treat yourself to a copy.
  • I am a fan of sociological fictions , Patricia Leavy's in particular. I eagerly awaited Spark and it did not disappoint. Leavy's writing instructs, guides and encourages personal and social awareness, but achieves this in the most unobtrusive way possible. Her writing is the opposite of academic , in that it is thoroughly engaging, creative and accessible. Spark brings together the idea that we can begin from where we are and that we can achieve, strive and be the best that we can be while helping others to do the same. This book will change you!
  • I was looking for something to read while on a trip. I was fortunate enough to hear of this just in time. It was the perfect companion. This book was a refreshing reminder that I feel we so desperately need right now. We are not as different as we may seem to be at first glance. Truly understanding each other and the world will hopefully give us all the Spark we need. I know this book uplifted me and it was much appreciated!
  • I have to admit that I don't know what to make of this book, considering the 5-star reviews. The first 2 chapters are among the worst fiction that I've ever read. Stilted and didactic with stereotyped characters. But apparently it's part of a genre that's supposed to be didactic...Written by a sociology professor as a fiction textbook for sociology students, as I understand Leavy's numerous other novels to be as well. I've never seen anything like it, and I'd prefer not to see it again. I wish that the reviews hadn't seduced me to buy it.
  • An interesting read, not sure what I was expecting, but not disappointed either. It’s hard not to pause and have a think on a key phrase, or comment from the story. But that is the idea isn’t it? I so wanted the answer to the question... silently forbidding myself to skip to the end... but it was ultimately all those key thoughts (I actually highlighted them along the way) that made me think that provided the answer.
  • "Spark" creates a sense of awe and wonder about human connection and the exciting possibilities that can develop when groups of diverse people come together to solve problems. The book reminds us that the journey to find the solution to a problem is always filled with a great deal of personal growth and discovery. Leavy ‘s gift to weave an engaging narrative makes for an inspiring read, as well as creating new bridges between the social sciences and arts based research.

« Le soleil. La plage. Juan-les-Pins.

Feck Perfuction Dangerous Ideas on the Business of Life James Victore Danielle LaPorte 9781452166360 Books Reviews

  • Once I started reading I literally couldn't put Feck Purfuction down.

I feel like in this book James approaches some of the most fundamental parts of being a creative—an artist, designer, writer, etc.—with brutal honesty and what he describes as a "radical" sense. The ideas shared in the book are certainly different, what James clarifies as "dangerous", because they're the types of insights others simply aren't willing to tell you.

He covers things like don't worry what other people want, worry about what you want. Or fail more, because that's how you're going to learn best. Or even screw the high-paying job, do what makes you come alive because that's what the world needs (and interestingly enough it's often what we need as individuals too).

The book is broken down into short chapters highlighting different ideas. James shares his life experience and really drives home the importance of "feck purfuction", that is the notion that creating is an act best served by simply doing it, not waiting around for circumstances to be right or for your talents to be world-class. Just get out there and make a mess, as James says.
  • Do you know James Victore? I do, although, we've never met in person. So, as an emerging artist, I’m a fan, a follower and the recipient of James’ good advice and ruminations for the past four or five years. Beware, this review could be considered biased, however, that can hardly stop me.

James worked on this book in the wee hours of the morning on his porch while drinking coffee … the sun was far from rising … his new baby daughter, his pre-school son and his lovely wife were still dreaming away; this is just a teeny tiny (out of hundreds/maybe thousands) examples of his grit and determination and how to get important things done.

If you are a Creative .. . or, if your talent is tucked away in your little finger … this book will kickstart any ambition you wish to bring to the surface…. and, at the same time, make you a better person for it. James doesn’t mince any words, he gets directly to the core of the matter and will motivate you beyond motivation. He can make you laugh out loud and he can make you cry…. he’s outrageous and sensitive all rolled into one groovy guy.

This book is an easy and entertaining read accompanied by lots of pages of his creative and artistic renderings. Don’t wait; do yourself a favor and order a copy; you won’t regret it. - Cathy W., Indianapolis, IN
  • This is one of the best books I’ve read on the topic of productivity, personal improvement, and inspiration. I’m recommending it to my friends, my managers, and my employees.

This book is a straight-talking kick in the pants to ignite and inspire you to become your best self. Personally, I’ve had a stagnant, unfulfilled feeling in the pit of my stomach for some time. I have ideas, I have desires, but my fear of failure, fear of putting myself out there, and fear of falling short of perfection have fully halted me from action. Victore lays down the truth about the reality of our fears in this book, and I mean the TRUTH, in a way that I have not encountered thus far and that I needed to hear. My biggest takeaway is that this book helped me see that I’m overthinking myself into a life I don’t want, because I’m afraid I’ll fail and fall further away from the life I do want, when all that I really need to do to have the life I do want is to get out of my own way and choose to live it.
  • If you are looking for another self-help book to push you to be better this is not the one you are looking for.

If you are looking for a book that will kick you hard in the heart and nether regions and force you to think differently about everything you work on then you should read this and then get ready to work.

A must-read for anyone feeling lost, confused or down on where they are in life. For anyone who knows there is more in them than what they punch a clock every day to do. For anyone wanting to do more with their life.

Buy it. Read it. Do the work. Oh, and of course have fun!
  •  I feel like this book has been a long time coming. James Victore has been challenging and encouraging creatives to embrace their weirdness and ignore the status quo in favor of their own voices. Not only is this book a perfect compilation of all of what I would consider James' best ideas and advice for the creative life, but it is also an incredible resource for anyone wanting to get a shift in their perspective. From "Your parents were wrong" to "kill your phone" to "I'm a fake" and "Make work that matters" James is unashamed, brutally honest, and practical. Each idea is challenging to things that I have struggled with or still struggle with and it's such a refreshing change of pace in the creative realm. It's also a really portable size, design and layout make me want to read it and re-read it and leave it on my coffee table for everyone to check out. Thanks for sharing your own lessons for yourself with all of us James, I'm looking forward to wearing this book out!
  • This is the kind of book that will live in my purse and not on my bookshelf. From the size of this book that fits perfectly in your hands to all the pages carrying nuggets of powerful lessons, wisdom and reminders of how beautiful and purposeful our lives are, this book needs to be read over and over again. I purchased 3 of these books so far and will be purchasing more as gifts to friends and to my students. Even today, one of my high school student held this book in her arms the entire class and couldn't let it go. I had to let her keep it.
  • James Victore is pushy in the best way possible! He pushes his opinion on the page and then he is practical because he teaches you how to do the same thing in order to live a creative, authentic, passionate life! I love his challenge to "Find my own damn opinion!" It so simple and yet so challenging for me as a woman who has been taught how to be "nice" and as a professional who travels in circles where opinions and judgments are often demonized. Wisdom and insight live right at the edge of our opinions and James shows the way! Read this book!

The Scourge of Muirwood Legends of Muirwood Book 3 eBook Jeff Wheeler Reviews

  • I read the first Muirwood trilogy when it first came out on , and fell in love with Jeff Wheeler's world and its people. I read Landmoor and Silverkin hoping for more of these people, realizing such fine writing and characterization and richness of detail deserve more than one read. Then came the second Muirwood trilogy about Lia's descendant Maia, who is tasked with fulfilling the final stages of rebuilding promised by her ancestors, and had to read all six books all the way through before starting Kingfountain, and once again decided Muirwood, more than any other, is a fantasy world I could happily live in. Here I am finishing The Scourge for the third time after discovering the connections with the worlds in Kingfountain as well as in some sitting in my I have yet to read. I put these worlds up there with Narnia, Hogwarts, and Middle Earth, but strongly recommend all of Wheeler for adult fantasy readers who love deeply-drawn characters and complex relationships and a roaring good read with just enough edge to be exciting and still suitable for my grandchildren. Keep the Idumean universe coming, Mr. Wheeler. Can't wait to see what you do next!
  • While I don't typically read fantasy novels or series because they all seem the same, this one is *not* like all the others. It's a fantasy novel and series with style, with real characters, with a story worth wrapping yourself up in, with some comedy (Maderos!), and even with real life lessons nestled comfortably in little places here and there. By the second or third chapter, of each book, I am consistently hooked, and I quickly get to the point in each book of this series where I can't put it down. I was reading half the night and listening most of the day instead of working. It was a wonderful experience! Delightful!!! I think the main turning point for me was around chapter six, of the first one when it became clear to me what was going on, though the twists and turns kept it alive throughout, and around a third of the way into the first book of this series, we met the hilarious Maderos. Read by the narrator, Maderos came alive! He was a true pleasure to meet and I was laughing my head off through three chapters. Incidentally, I cannot recommend the narration enough at the low cost that it is right now When you buy the books for $4 to $6 right now, you can add the narration for another $2 and then you can listen to it as you go about your day by carrying a around. Or listen on an Echo or Echo Dot. I listen while I'm cooking a meal, while getting ready for work, or while taking a bath, for example, saying, "Alexa, pause," when people need to talk to me, or "Alexa, rewind two minutes," for example, when I need to hear something again. And then when I open my book to read at night, the syncs to where it was playing aloud with audible narration. It's a great hobby.

Anyway, I'm not an or employee, I'm a teacher and don't do anything related to this stuff. I'm just telling you what I know.

Jeff Wheeler's books include the Harbinger series, the Kingfountain series, and the two Muirwood series, from what I can tell. And they are a trip worth taking, a joy to read. I started reading them when I was offered the first book in the Harbinger series free on Audible a month or so ago and I have been so completely enchanted by *every* single one of his books, I've decided it's time to put out a review. The man is talented. One of the true masters of our world. In his worlds, he's a Maston - no an Aldermaston from a Family. And he's truly fountain blessed.
  • Seriously cannot explain how much I enjoyed the Muirwood series - Jeff Wheeler does such an amazing job creating a riveting story that I literally couldn't put down. He has a gift for creating rich interactions, deep meaning, and powerful emotions without being graphic, cliche, or overly sexual, which is truly an underrated skill. It's one of those books that you immediately want to re-read after finishing, to pick up on details that you may have missed the first time around. And yes, I have definitely re-read the entire series a few times since getting it. It's THAT good, and made me want to get the rest of Mr. Wheeler's books. They are all good, but the Muirwood series has a special place in my heart.
  • I am a devoted fan of fantasy and science fiction and without question, this is one of the most endearing, exciting, captivating and beautifully written series I have ever read. For me, one of the most important ways of judging the quality of any story, print or film, is the author's ability to evoke the readers' or viewers' empathy with his characters and Jeff Wheeler, with his brilliant character development in this series, does that in spades. For example, it is impossible not to fall completely in love with Maia, and to vividly feel her every emotion, her every pain, her every triumph, her every battle (both physical and emotional). Despite it being fantasy, the whole atmosphere Mr. Wheeler manages to create with the entire world of Muirwood makes it seem real - that feat in itself takes consummate skill. I would unreservedly recommend this series to EVERYONE.
  • The climax of an entertaining trilogy.. Jeff Wheeler certainly knows how to tell a good story AND how to put it in writing. The 'mage-craft' can get confusing, but it seems to be consistent -- unlike some fantasy writers who pull a new magic power out of nowhere when the main characters get into hot water. I still have a little problem with his "very rare but slightly troubling grammar errors." I only mention them because they are just enough to 'Jolt' me out of my poetic empathy with the story. However, since his editor does not catch these "errors," perhaps the grammar has become acceptable in certain areas of writing. Regardless, as my Grandad used to say, "Never let the truth or technicalities ruin a good story!"

Anatomy of the Psyche Alchemical Symbolism in Psychotherapy Reality of the Psyche Series Audible Audio Edition Edward F Edinger James Killavey University Press Audiobooks Books Reviews

  • I picked up this book at the suggestion of a friend due to my interest in the dream work, and I've discovered it to be an excellent study on symbolism and how it can be applied to the symbolism of our dreams as well in ourselves. This book is divided into seven stages corresponding to different functions of the Alchemical Work and their psychological analogues, which all added to my understanding of the symbolism and its importance on one's psychology.

I most certainly agree with one reviewer that there are no hard and fast rules in decoding the symbolism of dreams as I often found myself at disadvantages with interpreting my own dreams for self-growth. But, it is best to gain more theories and guidelines on the subject which become the available tools for us to use in interpreting.

Indeed, this book is not an easy reading but proved to be useful and one of excellent resources on the subject.
  • Edinger is a titan in depth psychology. Consequently I had great expectations for this book and was a bit disappointed. The research and scholarship are first rate, and the illustrations from classic alchemical texts are fantastic. However, even though Edinger expresses up front that alchemical processes in psychology have no single linear progression and must be addressed through an examination of its various operations, the book places too much emphasis on the parts rather than the whole and, I feel, loses the forest in the trees. I would have appreciated a more holistic approach that emphasized how the processes work in concert to achieve transformation. Also, while Edinger provides a good outline of what each alchemical operation is, he doesn't focus enough on how the processes operate in individual psychic transformation. A case study illustrating the operations in practice would have been useful. So, the book is a good resource, but to get a clearer sense of how alchemy operates in the psyche, I'll have to look elsewhere.
  • For those who are studying alchemical and Jungian psychology, this book simplifies what C.G Jung and Maria Luisa von Franz write about alchemy. Understanding alchemy is necessary for understanding dream symbols.
  • Edinger says that the alchemists unintentionally built a map of the human psyche when they developed their theories about the material world; then proceeds to give example after example of the parallels between Jung's psychological framework and the alchemical "discoveries." Well worth the read.
  • Wonderful book - nice bridge between alchemy and Jung
  • This book helps to explain alchemy. Doesn't really give an actual anatomy of the psyche but it's still a really good read.
  • Very clear presentation of main 7 stages. I suspect there are more stages that Edinger could have explored - but these are great. Very helpful in thinking about dreams.
  • This book is fascinating read and teaches, through a specific set of rich and beautiful symbols, one way to spiritual enlightenment. I read it again and again.
